The incredible, vanishing #
“If you don’t have free speech you can’t even address all those other [important] issues -which is exactly they want it. … Increasingly there is an ‘official position’ and if you disagree with that ‘official position’ people will come after you, they will ruin your life, they will end your career, they will get you fired from your job and, if necessary, they will attempt to criminalise your position.”
Two of the greatest polymaths of our day (IMHO!) talk about THE greatest issue of our day.
I sincerely wish I could convince every one of you to take the time to listen to this conversation.
To start with they talk about the specifics of Jordan Peterson’s run-in with Canada’s draconian new ‘hate speech’ laws: fascinating & disturbing, but as dry as a Weetabix sandwich. Then, at 20:25, they get to the crux of THE issue. The crux of EVERY issue. An issue that should concern EVERYONE who cares about ANYTHING that’s worth caring about. If you think that seems like hyperbole, you’re wrong. It’s impossible overestimate the importance of free speech.
And if anyone should understand that, it’s Christians:“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
The Word & Freedom. The gospel epitomised.
What more can I say? I hope I can convince you that free speech is worth 30 minutes of your life – the alternative is a lifetime of dumb slavery.
