Here’s the shop window display from The Entertainer toy-shop. Apparently it’s the same in all 130 of their stores.
What a bold public witness of their faith & values. Christ first & foremost.
When so many Christians have demoted “The Lord’s Day” to “The Lord’s Hour”, Gary Grant, the founder & owner of The Entertainer chain, steadfastly refuses to open his stores on a Sunday. That includes Christmas eve this year. It may cost them millions in sales. I think they’ll receive a dividend that’s out of this world!
Here’s my paraphrase of the sermon on the mount, The Entertainer Version!
Don’t store up presents here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your presents in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your presents are, there the desires of your heart will also be.
I tell you, do not worry about your Christmas, what you will eat or drink; or about your business, what you will sell. Is not Christmas more than food, and the business more than sales?
So do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we sell?” For the materialists run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
